Radstadt Krampus Run

The tradition of Krampus is an ancient custom during the Christmas season that still holds great significance in Austria. The Advent season is a time for customs, and alongside the charming Advent markets, there are few traditions more traditional than the Krampus and Perchten runs. Eerie figures, known as "Wilde Roas," roam the villages wearing imposing masks that are half animal, half human, and elaborate fur costumes, shaping this pre-Christmas cult. Around 650 Krampuses are expected in the town center of Radstadt – it will be quite "hellish"! Of course, there will also be mulled wine, punch, and some small snacks available at the marketplace.
