Obertraun Glöcklerlauf

The purpose of the Glöcklerlauf is to gain the salvation and blessing of the good spirits and to drive away the evil spirits with the muffled sound of the bells and the bright light of the candles. Wearing white robes, caps weighing up to 20 kilograms and equally heavy bells, they parade through the town.
The Glöcklerlauf starts at 16:45 on the town square in Obertraun. There the bell ringers make their circles and are accompanied by the Obertraun brass band. Afterwards, the bell ringers, divided into three "passes" (groups), run through the whole village wishing the population a Happy New Year.
The Glöckler are invited to rest in various guesthouses and private homes and are provided with warming tea and a good snack.
