Perchtenlauf Premstätten

On Saturday, 15 November, the market town of Premstätten invites you to an atmospheric traditional evening in the heart of Styria. The meeting point is the Premstätten sports park, where numerous Perchten groups from the region come together. The run starts at around 17:30 in the centre of Premstätten. The dark season in the area around Graz takes on a lively atmosphere on this evening: masked figures with old ­legends and customs parade through the streets, creating sounds with bells, rattles and rhythmic stamping and thus forming a link between folk culture, community and regional identity. In the Graz adventure region, this run offers a special opportunity to experience customs up close and visitors can expect an opening into the origins: sounds, fog, dim light, torches or candlelight - all of which contribute to the atmosphere. The Perchten groups not only perform, they also offer an insight into the art of mask making and the cultivation of regional crafts and traditions.
