The grande dame of Austrian musical theater, Maya Hakvoort, will honor the producer, director, screenwriter, actress, songwriter, and gifted singer Barbra Streisand with a very personal concert: "Maya Hakvoort in Concert" on Saturday, March 15, 2025. The evening's program at GLOBE WIEN is a tribute to the icon of show business and showcases the diversity of Streisand's musical work. "Barbra Streisand and her songs have motivated and inspired me throughout my life. I will interpret them with the same level of dedication and perfectionism that she herself shows in her music, while also bringing in my own style and emotions to give the songs my personal touch," says Maya Hakvoort.
The program spans a musical arc from 1960 to the present and includes jazz numbers with great musical passages, film hits such as the song "Evergreen," written by Streisand herself from A Star Is Born. There will also be captivating storytelling melodies by Michel Legrand, such as those from the musical film Yentl, as well as pop numbers and well-known duets originally sung by Celine Dion, Donna Summer, Barry Gibb, and Neil Diamond.
Maya Hakvoort will be accompanied by a 9-member band led by Jeff Frohner, who is responsible for the impressive orchestral and band arrangements, and will also be supported by eight string players from the Young Philharmonic of Vienna, adding extra depth to the musical expression. This will be complemented by Monika Ballwein and Andie Gabauer as outstanding duet partners, rounding off the musical experience. The collaboration with director Ramesh Nair perfects the evening with an elegant and magical touch.
"I have chosen those songs that personally represent the most beautiful moments of her entire career for me. These songs have a special significance for me; some touch on themes that are close to my heart, and others evoke many memories. I am very much looking forward to this evening and to my audience," says Hakvoort.
Maya Hakvoort is not only an outstanding singer but also produces her solo programs and shows, such as "Voices of Musical," through her company "Maya Hakvoort Music Productions." She was awarded the Golden Merit Badge of the Republic of Austria in 2011 and the Golden Rathausmann of the City of Vienna in 2016, as well as the Great Honorary Award for Services to the State of Lower Austria.
