Obertraun Mountain Experience - Sunrise Ride to Krippenstein

Admire the magical natural spectacle

During the sunrise rides on the Krippenstein, enjoying the sunrise at 2,100 meters begins with the ride in the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car, which literally means "rising from the darkness."

Mystically, the cable car station, built in the 1950s, stands surrounded by forest on a small hill slightly away from the town of Obertraun. In the darkness, the headlights of cars dance like little lights through the woods as nature lovers gather in the night at the cable car station.

The red fireball

Off we go, and the cable car gondola slowly ascends. On the horizon, mountain peaks are lined up, vaguely bathed in glowing red. Upon reaching 2,100 meters, one wonders what the word dawn is for. It is a sunrise in all its shades, growing stronger and brighter until the sun rises as a red fireball from the radiant colors. The sight of the sun at this moment is so intense that it can be perceived even with closed eyes. If you now turn your back to the sun and look towards the Dachstein, the view is at least just as impressive. Piece by piece, the Dachstein peak, the glacier, the Dirndln, the Koppenkarstein, and all the other peaks are bathed in gentle light. A new day has awakened, a sheep cloud glimmers over the mountain massif, followed by its little shadow.

With breakfast at the Dachstein Krippenstein mountain restaurant, which takes place after the sunrise, you are strengthened for a wonderful day at the "Stoa"!

Tip: One of the most beautiful hikes is the Heibronner circular trail, which leads from the Gjaid Alm, past the Dachstein shark, back to the Krippenstein.
