International Austrian Yukigassen Championships

Austria's largest snowball fight!

On March 15, 2025, the international Austrian Yukigassen Championships will take place for the second time in Austria. Yukigassen (Japanese 雪合戦 'snow battle') is a Japanese team sport based on the principle of a snowball fight (with clear rules). It is already considered a true national sport throughout Asia and is also enjoying immense popularity in Scandinavia.

The Yukigassen World Championships are held annually in Hokkaido (Japan), and the official Yukigassen European Championships take place every year in Lapland (Finland).

The Austrian Yukigassen Association, founded in 2024 and based in Filzmoos, has set out to promote Yukigassen in Austria and Germany from Filzmoos.

There are basically no prerequisites (only a minimum age of 13 years) and you need at least 6 players to form a team (a Yukigassen team consists of 7 to 10 players). Protective gear is provided by the organizer (only warm clothing and sturdy shoes need to be brought).
