Telemachus knows his father Odysseus only from the stories told by his mother Penelope. He left home shortly after Telemachus was born and has not been seen since. Penelope claims that Odysseus is a legend, experiencing strange adventures and has not returned for that reason. Telemachus does not know what and how much to believe of this. Who is this Odysseus really? Where is he? Why doesn’t he come back? The son is tormented by many questions. And so he ultimately sets out to find him and encounters the Sirens, Scylla and Charybdis, Polyphemus, and other strange beings.

Inspired by Homer’s "Odyssey," the story is retold from Telemachus's perspective. It explores autonomy and the question of what defines us. Are we free in our choices or merely the children of our parents? To what extent can we break away from our ancestors and forge our own path? An opera for young people about growing up, self-discovery, and self-determination.
