Guided Autumn Hike: Nature Gem Reedsee

A dreamlike yet challenging hike to the natural jewel Reedsee. We walk along the impressive Himmelwand on the goods road and already reach the outer zone of the National Park "Hohe Tauern." At the "Jägerstein," we turn right, cross the Kötschachbach, and ascend the Alpine trail 526 to Kohlplatzl and then to Reedsee at 1,820 meters. After a refreshing break at what is arguably one of the most beautiful mountain lakes, we continue uphill, passing Windschursee and heading to Palfnerscharte (2,321 m). The magnificent mountain panorama invites us to linger once again. We descend to the deep green Palfnersee and then continue our path over the Palfner Hochalm and Palfner Heimalm to Schachenbauer. This mountain hike goes above the tree line. The excursion destinations are accessible via alpine trails in partly steep terrain. The Hohe Tauern National Park is a unique natural paradise just waiting to be hiked and discovered. Birds can be identified by their song or flight patterns, and there is also the possibility of observing various wildlife. It is not uncommon to see bearded vultures, griffon vultures, and golden eagles circling overhead. Marmots, chamois, ibex, and many other mountain dwellers inhabit this area. Geological and botanical peculiarities continually surprise the interested hiker.

Ankle-high hiking or mountaineering boots with a good tread are absolutely necessary.
