JAZZ CELLAR at the SCOTS - RIVERSIDE STOMPERS

The RIVERSIDE STOMPERS have been around since 1989 and are one of the best bands in Vienna playing the style of hot, authentic New Orleans jazz, characterized primarily by its dense, improvised collective playing.

Emerging in the early 20th century in the southern USA from the blending of European and African American influences, this music was brought to its highest perfection in the early 1920s by masters such as Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, and Jelly Roll Morton. After World War II, this captivating music style gained worldwide popularity and continues to be cultivated by numerous bands around the globe.

Our repertoire mainly includes pieces from the classic New Orleans era (ragtime, stomps, spirituals, blues), as well as compositions from the early swing era. Since expanding our lineup to include two cornets/trumpets, clarinet, trombone, piano, banjo, tuba, and drums, we have a particular focus on the works from the legendary recording series of "King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band" from 1923.
