Kafka's story THE BURROW is the protocol of an underground world where happiness and paranoia are closely intertwined. It describes a kind of human-animal, a Kafkaesque, thinking creature. This being lives in a mental crusade, in a permanent state of emergency, directed against the outside world, against potential intruders. THE BURROW is a parable about a society that constantly creates risks by trying to prevent them. As in all of Kafka's stories, the consequences of their actions and thoughts relentlessly drive the beings—animals, humans, men—forward, often abandoned by any sense of reality.
