TONI & MARGIT KNITTEL – a mythical creature makes music
The Bluatschink is a mythical creature from the Lech River that is said to eat small children. However, Margit & Toni Knittel transformed it from a children's fright into an environmental advocate back in 1990, and since then, this "water wolpertinger" has been looking after the wild Lech River. Its name has also inspired the music project with which these two Lechtal residents have been bringing joy to big and small children far and wide.
Over the years, "Bluatschink" has produced many CDs for adults ("Funka fliaga", "I han di gera") as well as music for children. In all these programs, the songs that resonated most with the children were those that made them laugh heartily. This laughter also spreads to the adults at family concerts – and that is the real secret of these events.
"Only when the adults have laughed at least as much as the children am I satisfied with the concert!" – says Toni Knittel about the secret recipe for success.
As soon as the first song of the new program "Dann geht’s den Affen gut" (Then the monkeys will be fine) begins, young and old are fully engaged – singing along, clapping, and participating is the order of the day. The themes of the songs are deliberately chosen to come straight from the children's world: friendship, solidarity, and family are at the center of the messages. Quirky characters are a must in every Bluatschink program: knights are not just heroic fighters, but can also be a bit clumsy; dragons are not merely fearsome monsters, but funny and become best friends; and unicorns are not just pink and glittery, but can also be a bit plump and almost resemble rhinoceroses!
The fact that Bluatschink consciously refers to its concerts as "family concerts" has a reason.
Toni Knittel: "In our concerts, the children don't sit in front and the adults in the back. I am a father of four myself, and I always wanted to experience firsthand how my own children, for example, fully engage with the puppet theater, shouting along and living the experience. Moreover, the children engage the adults, and when the children, parents, and grandparents quack, sing, and imitate the long nose of Knight Rüdiger together – then we can provide an experience that will remain in the family's memory forever!"
The fact that Bluatschink, as a Lechtal environmental advocate, also stands up for endangered species and the environment means that the children's concerts are not just about belly laughs. Many songs contain stories that provoke thought – and the real secret of Bluatschink's success lies in the ability to season this educational ambition with a huge portion of humor while ensuring that entertainment is not neglected.
