At the end of the 19th century, the "new style" makes its entrance in St. Pölten. Flowing lines and animal ornaments are preferred. Something new and independent is to be created – hardly imaginable in the otherwise baroque St. Pölten. The scandal is complete with the house at Kremsergasse 41. The unusual window shapes, the curved roof gable, and the mortar frieze are celebrated by a small group as an "example of modernity," but for most, the building is simply "Chinese." Nevertheless, the "taste revolution" has succeeded, and many architectural treasures await discovery.
