ABOUT THE CONCERT
They are internationally recognized as pioneers of their respective ensembles and set standards in terms of virtuosity, creativity, and joy of music-making: VCC and MASQ! For three decades, Helmut Hödl's Vienna Clarinet Connection has captivated audiences throughout Europe, while exceptional saxophonist Gerald Preinfalk has been performing under the name MASQ in various formations for many years. Both ensemble leaders – Hödl and Preinfalk – are simultaneously soloists and composers, pushing the sonic and technical possibilities of the nine woodwind instruments – four clarinets and five saxophones – to the limit in their commissioned compositions. With boundless creativity, incredibly virtuosic skills, and overflowing joy in making music, the two ensembles effortlessly create a musical bridge from Viennese classical music to jazz, Brazilian rhythms, tango, and brilliant original compositions. Wood sounds good!
