Simone is a successful electrical engineer who has just returned from her business trip. She has a gift for her husband Erik, who has been taking care of the household and the children during her absence. Erik hesitates to open the package. What does the gift mean? What if Erik returned from a trip and Simone took care of family life at home? Would she be happy with a gift from him? Does it matter who takes which role in their relationship? And is it even possible to meet one's own expectations of love and cohabitation without becoming a hopelessly comical figure? EGAL is a psychologically profound and absurdly funny play by Marius von Mayenburg about privileged and seemingly equal couples, whose world appears to be in order from the outside – and who take themselves so seriously that it becomes laughable.
