Open Day at the Hallstättersee Rowing and Plattenbau Association

The Plättenbau and Rowing Club Hallstättersee opens the doors of its historic boat shed at the Untersee beach. From 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, locals as well as guests are warmly invited to take a look behind the scenes of this extraordinary club – and to experience a centuries-old cultural technique up close. The focus is on the Hallstättersee "Plätte," the so-called "Fuhr" – a historical watercraft that once formed the economic backbone of the region and is still regarded today as a symbol of craftsmanship, connection to nature, and living tradition.

Visitors will have the rare opportunity on this day not only to tour the workshop on the upper floor of the boat shed with its intricate manufacturing processes but also to engage in conversation with active club members. They will provide expert insights into the elaborate construction, history, and use of the "Fuhren." Particularly noteworthy, upon request, are the short outings with a real "Plättenkapitän" or "Plättenkapitänin," during which the magic of these unique boats from the Inner Salzkammergut can be best experienced – gliding silently over the waters of Hallstättersee. The Plättenbau and Rowing Club Hallstättersee looks forward to numerous interested visitors and invites everyone to discover, admire, and perhaps even learn to appreciate this valuable cultural heritage a little more.
