The night, as a sphere of the dreamlike, the irrational, the mysterious, and longing, has exerted a magnetic attraction on poets, visual artists, and composers since the 19th century. A selection of the most famous "night pieces" comes together in Isata Kanneh-Mason's piano recital, including Ludwig van Beethoven's world-famous "Moonlight" Sonata, Maurice Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit based on poems by Aloysius Bertrand, and the piano pieces Nocturne and Halo by the British-Bulgarian composer Dobrinka Tabakova. As a counterpoint to the atmospheric sounds of the night, Beethoven's energetic "Waldstein" Sonata rounds off the program.
