What is true and what is false, who stands in the light and who in the dark? As the COVID-19 pandemic gradually morphed into an infodemic, the struggle for truth itself became radicalized. Parts of the population disconnected, finding their new, more fitting reality in Telegram groups or at anti-lockdown demonstrations. Disinformation became a weapon. Even after the pandemic, the rift remains: dialogue or consensus between the factions seems impossible; instead, people live in separate spheres, worldviews clash, and distrust reigns. Families, relationships, and decades-long friendships suddenly find no common language anymore. Never before has it been so easy to get lost in the tangle of opinions – and to harass opponents from the shadows of anonymity.

Like a ghost, the aftereffects of the pandemic haunt our present. The Viennese directing duo DARUM deals with these very themes that keep one awake at night – blind spots in society, eerie revenants of history, the irreconcilable and contradictory aspects of everyday life. With their VR performance “[EOL]. End of Life,” they were invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen in 2025. Now, DARUM is developing a production at the Volkstheater in collaboration with the independent research platform DOSSIER for the first time – it is becoming an elegy for truth and a panorama of doubt.
