CORPSE FEAST
A black comedy with music by Leo Maria Bauer and Ernst Gabriel Vokurek
The successful authors of "South Sea Fever" serve up humor and music once again: In their new black comedy "CORPSE FEAST," four people gather to say goodbye to a friend – and must confront their own feelings and life in the process.
Valentin has died. The successful but difficult star chef has suddenly passed away, and his closest confidants gather for his corpse feast in his restaurant. However, what was meant to be a mourning ceremony quickly turns into a turbulent comedy: Marlene, the ex-girlfriend and sommelier of the restaurant, meticulously arranges the food while suppressing her own shattered dreams. Xenia, the eccentric sister and gallery owner, who is financially at her wit's end. Johannes, the superficial television chef, who is already planning to profit from Valentin's death. And Dr. Maximilian Brandau, the bitter restaurant critic, who poses as an intellectual authority.
What was intended as a dignified farewell evolves into a merciless yet liberating confrontation. Instead of mourning, everyone settles scores, exposes each other, and realizes that no one lives forever – and that not only food has an expiration date. When Valentin's last video message reveals his true feelings about his companions, everything spirals out of control.
Leo Maria Bauer and Ernst Gabriel Vokurek, who have already proven with "South Sea Fever" that they can skillfully handle human weaknesses and societal upheavals, present a biting comedy with depth in "CORPSE FEAST." Their play captivates with fast-paced dialogues, pointed observations, and relatable truths about friendship, envy, and false facades.
Under the direction of Leo Maria Bauer, four outstanding performers from the fields of cabaret and entertainment bring these multifaceted characters to the stage: Eva Maria Marold, Samantha Steppan, Günther Lainer, and Christoph Fälbl transform the theater evening into an intense chamber play full of dark comedy and surprising twists.
"CORPSE FEAST" is a comedy with substance – a piece that raises uncomfortable yet important questions: What are friendships worth when success beckons? How honest are we with ourselves and others? And what happens when four people are forced to confront their own feelings and realize that life is finite?
With musical elements that sharply comment on the action, "CORPSE FEAST" becomes a theatrical event that makes the audience laugh while also touching them. A biting yet warm-hearted reflection on friendship, loss, and the art of dealing with life and its surprises.
