Everyone who experienced September 11, 2001, likely remembers that day. However, many other stories worth telling surround the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. For example, the story of the small community of Gander in Newfoundland: On the day of the attacks, 38 planes were diverted to their airport, requiring the heroically improvising residents to care for about 7,000 passengers from around the world for several days. The event in this remote location impressively demonstrates the selfless and cross-cultural willingness to help that people are capable of in a disaster.
The rapidly, emotionally, and humorously told musical features an irresistible Celtic folk-rock score that serves the story wholeheartedly. The Broadway production from 2017 had 1,669 performances by the end of 2022, making it one of the few shows that was not brought to its knees by the COVID crisis. Musical director Matthias Davids takes on the role of director for this touching piece.
