With his wages, he cannot feed his beloved Marie and their child, so he additionally takes on work as a medical test subject. The effects of the experiments weaken him, who is already marked by life, to such an extent that he increasingly loses himself in a world of delusions. Moreover, the drum major has long set his sights on Marie and spares no effort to win her over. And so Woyzeck takes action before someone else robs him of the person he believes he has a claim to.
At his early death in 1837, Georg Büchner left Woyzeck as a fragment, open to interpretations. At its end, the German dramatist introduced the murder of a woman, long before the term femicide was coined for this type of crime. Theater director David Bösch dedicates this season to this significant work of German drama literature, presenting it as a scenario populated by the wounded and lost souls of a world on the brink of collapse.
