Experience the hidden world of moths in the Geschriebenstein Nature Park live.

Dive into an unknown cosmos and explore our native species of moths on the screen, which are attracted by special lamps and baits. At dusk, many of our native moth species can be lured using a "light screen" and "bait strings." Many of these species even present themselves in yellow, orange, red, or green and are far from inconspicuous. Some have a wingspan of just a few millimeters, while others exceed 10 cm in wingspan. Thomas Zechmeister will introduce you to the unknown cosmos of moths and provide you with an entertaining and exciting overview of the local species landscape, their significance in the ecosystem, and the necessity of monitoring them for conservation-related management measures.

Speaker: Thomas Zechmeister is the head of the Biological Station at the State Laboratory for Chemical and Microbiological Water Analyses in Illmitz. In addition, he is involved in biodiversity monitoring of moths in ecologically valuable habitats of Burgenland for natural history management issues.

Recommended equipment: Sturdy footwear, jacket or sweater, flashlight or headlamp, mosquito repellent spray. If needed: reading glasses or magnifying glass, headwear, possibly a small snack, possibly a folding chair or blanket for sitting, possibly a camera/phone with a macro lens.
