Viehhausen Krampus Run

Every year, towards the end of November, an old figure deeply rooted in alpine tradition wanders through the streets of Viehhausen near Wals-Siezenheim: the Krampus. During the Viehhausen Krampus Run, organized by the Teufelsgraben Pass, dark figures with shaggy furs, fearsome masks, and heavy bells gather for an impressive traditional parade. Especially for children, there is a glimmer of light in the darkness: St. Nicholas distributes small gifts, bringing shining eyes, while the Krampuses maintain a respectful distance. There is also plenty of food and drink available – with warming beverages and regional delicacies.
