Elisabeth steps onto the stage. She is the Empress of Austria, Queen of Hungary, an ideal of beauty, a wife, a mother, an athlete – and has been dead for over 100 years. How does she reflect on her life in the spotlight of the 19th century? On her continued existence as an icon in dozens of films and series. Sisi's face adorns candies and souvenirs; she is the showcase of Austria, the darling of a nation. At the same time, she is labeled a bad mother, described as having an eating disorder, vain, and selfish. Who is the woman behind all the images and stories? The young director Fritzi Wartenberg stages Mareike Fallwickl's monologue ELISABETH! and offers a multifaceted and feminist perspective on the Habsburg superstar.
