Felix is a true child of fortune. An emperor born into the bourgeoisie by mistake, who knows how to use his charm and adaptability from a young age. He transforms from a gifted school truant to a liftboy in a luxury hotel in Paris, where he soon becomes the adored favorite waiter of all. At the peak of his dubious "career," he embarks on a world tour as the doppelgänger of the Marquis de Venosta. Nothing seems to stand in the way of his relentless rise – certainly not the nobles and newly wealthy who are almost delighted to be deceived by him.
With Felix Krull, Thomas Mann has created a character of extraordinary charisma, hungry for life and love, who celebrates the art of illusion and can charm his way to the top thanks to noble suits, eloquently displayed half-knowledge, and just the right amount of criminal energy.
Director Folke Braband, who recently delighted a wide audience with works such as The Perfect Secret, The Name, and Monsieur Claude and His Daughters, now brings Thomas Mann's unfinished late work to the Kammerspiele.
