Sterz Festival at Tabor Castle

There are dishes that carry the flavor of an entire region within them. Sterz is one of them. What once was a humble peasant meal is now considered a culinary cultural heritage – down-to-earth, honest, and surprisingly versatile. Between the steaming pan and the crispy crust, Sterz tells stories of simpler times, of lived craftsmanship, and of a Burgenland that knows its roots – and proudly carries them on its tongue.

Whether made from buckwheat, cornmeal, potatoes, or even with a sweet note – Sterz embodies the diversity of the land. Sometimes hearty with cracklings, sometimes light with pumpkin or interpreted vegetarian, Sterz continually reinvents itself while remaining true to its essence: a genuine original. The kickoff for the Sterz Festival is a delightful weekend in the south – at the atmospheric Schloss Tabor in Neuhaus am Klausenbach. For two days, the romantic courtyard transforms into a stage for Burgenland's culinary culture: with live music, creative Sterz cooking shows, regional delicacies, and a colorful market atmosphere. A true highlight is the Neuhauser Sterz – a southern specialty with character. On Sunday, Georg Gossi and Deputy Governor Anja Haider-Wallner will perform live on stage at the stove. Musical enjoyment will be provided by K2 with Austropop on Saturday and Sandhouse with a groovy mix of blues, jazz, and world sounds on Sunday. Those who want to end the day with humor can enjoy the entertaining Uhudler theater right on site afterward. There will also be crafting activities for the little ones to prevent boredom.

Not only at the festival itself does everything revolve around Sterz: Numerous inns in the area invite visitors to Sterz Weeks around the events. There, guests can discover how diverse and modern the classic is interpreted today in a cozy tavern atmosphere.
