The Hagen Quartet is one of the few ensembles that has reached the top of the international chamber music market. Founded in Salzburg in the 1970s, it is now one of the leading string quartets in the world. The group celebrated its first successes shortly after its formation when it won first prize at "Jugend musiziert." A significant boost to the quartet's career came in 1981 when it was invited by Gidon Kremer to the first Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival, which the members today indirectly refer to as the birth of the Hagen Quartet.

Since 1987, they have performed in the same formation, and their concert repertoire encompasses virtually the entire string quartet literature. The ensemble received particular attention for its complete recording of Mozart's quartet compositions. For its achievements, the quartet has been awarded multiple honors, including the coveted ECHO Klassik. Additionally, the group has been an honorary member of the Vienna Concert Hall since 2012. A special recognition was granted to the Hagen Quartet in 2013 when, after the dissolution of the Tokyo String Quartet, they were provided with four Stradivari instruments named after the violinist Niccolò Paganini.

Beethoven - String Quartet in F minor, Op. 95
