The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters are coming to Austria as part of their upcoming 100th anniversary tour – “the most legendary tour in the history of the Globetrotters,” as they promise – with performances on October 6 in the new sports arena in Vienna and on October 8 at the VAZ St. Pölten.
“The anniversary season brings a unique show created specifically for the 100th birthday, featuring 100 years of breathtaking ‘You won’t believe it!’ moments, 100 years of ‘Wow!’ experiences, and 100 years of pure basketball fascination,” promise the Globetrotters. From spectacular dunks to outrageous dribbling, clever plays, and of course, plenty of fun, fans will experience the history and myth of the world’s most famous basketball team up close.
For the first time, the team will wear brand new 100-year jerseys as a tribute to the anniversary and will once again face their eternal rival, the Washington Generals. In addition to the spectacular and brilliant match, fans can look forward to the new Golden Basketball from Spalding®, exciting pre-game magic pass experiences, and an unforgettable “5th Quarter” autograph session – free for all fans after the official match. “A celebration like never before! The Harlem Globetrotters are not only legendary but have also made history for global basketball. Since 1926, the Globetrotters, proud members of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, have showcased their iconic basketball show on world tours in over 124 countries across six continents. They contributed to the NBA's acceptance of black players, which had previously been reserved for white athletes, with legendary Harlem Globetrotters player Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton being the first to sign a professional contract with the New York Knicks. The Globetrotters produced later Hall of Fame players like Wilt Chamberlain and Connie Hawkins, as well as show stars like Curly Neal and Meadowlark Lemon. They were the first to integrate women into professional basketball and made the sport popular worldwide, achieving unprecedented reach for the game. Designated as “Ambassadors of Goodwill” by the U.S. State Department as early as 1951, the Globetrotters use their influence and reach to advocate for health, education, and community.
They gained further success in the early 1970s with their own animated TV series, featuring the first African American in a leading role, and returned to television screens in 2024 with the Emmy-nominated NBC series “Harlem Globetrotters: Play it Forward.”
The current team of top athletes holds over 60 Guinness World Records (with 18 added just last year) - more than any other team in any sport! The legend lives on!
