From Louis Armstrong to Chris Barber: 50 Years of the "Very Old Stoariegler Dixieland Band"
It has been 50 years since the most original jazz band in Austria was founded, and since then, they have performed all over Austria. Now, the remaining founding members of the "Old Stoariegler Dixieland Band" are "on tour." With a combined age of 408 years, they are traveling the country as the "Very Old Stoariegler Dixieland Band." At their celebrated concerts, no eye remains dry. Alongside jazz arrangements for the Strauss year and pieces from the US jazz giants Mickey Katz and Spike Jones, they bring all the essential Dixieland earworms from "Icecream" to "Struttin' with Some Barbecue" to "Oh When The Saints," as well as the best songs from Louis Armstrong, Chris Barber, Sidney Bechet, and Louis Prima. They also share plenty of stories and mishaps from their 50-year "life tour" and their concerts with Fatty George, Oscar Klein, Hans Van der Sys, Peter Rapp, Chris Lohner, and performances in "Musikantenstadl." According to band founder Johannes Hödl, there is no end in sight for this success story: "The Rolling Stones are turning 63 this year. We want to outdo them by at least one year—because we are unstoppable," say the musicians.
The current lineup of the "Very Old Stoariegler Dixieband": Trumpet Mátyás Papp, Clarinet Johannes Hödl, Trombone Arthur Fandl, Piano Peter Lorenz, Guitar, Banjo, and Vocals Sigi Flamisch, Gerhard Steinrück on Double Bass, and Aaron Ofner on Drums.
