HELLO, DOLLY!
For the first time, a classic musical in Langenlois! The horizon of musical comedies in front of Schloss Haindorf is expanded with one of the most popular "musical comedies" of all time. HELLO, DOLLY! set the record for the longest-running musical with over 2,800 performances after its Broadway premiere in 1964. Four Broadway revivals followed, and the film adaptation featuring Barbra Streisand and Louis Armstrong became a worldwide sensation. So, the setting of the piece is not Vienna, but New York around 1900, although it also has Viennese roots: The story of two small-town employees who want to be "damned fellows" and encounter their strict boss during their day out in the big city is based on Johann Nestroy's EINEN JUX WILL ER SICH MACHEN. At the center is a "damn exhausting woman," the matchmaker Dolly Levi (Verena Scheitz). She pulls the strings, brings three couples together, teaches the tyrannical "half-millionaire" Horace Vandergelder (Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz) a lesson... and ultimately leads him gently but firmly into the harbor of marriage.
HELLO, DOLLY! not only delights us with irresistible music but also offers some winking life wisdom: "Marriage is a bribery attempt to make a housekeeper believe she is the homeowner." A lively comedic treat for all generations!
