The Smetana Trio from Prague is a world-renowned ensemble that was founded in 1934. Prof. Lehrbaumer reassuringly smiles, stating that there is no need to worry about the founding members performing after 91 years. Rather, one of the unique features of this trio is that it has seamlessly rejuvenated itself over the years, sometimes with one member and sometimes with another, ensuring that its high quality is always maintained and its playing tradition passed on. Recently, the famous pianist Jitka Čechová and the congenial cellist Jan Páleníček chose the fabulous young violinist Markéta Janoušková to glide into the next generation of the Smetana Trio at a top level.

There are distinct "trio hits" to enjoy:
Haydn's popular Piano Trio No. 39 "All Onghorese" ("In Hungarian") contains one of the most famous classical melodies.

Dramatic is the Trio No. 2 by the Czech late Romantic composer Bohuslav Martinů. (Prof. Lehrbaumer will highlight the interesting features in his explanations.)

Finally, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's Piano Trio No. 2 offers everything one could wish for in music: drama, poetry, wit, and breathtaking brilliance.

(Concert without intermission)
