New York – a sea of houses filled with dens of vice and hideouts for criminals. And right in the middle, an oasis of peace: the home of the Brewster sisters. No one is turned away at their door. Abby and Martha Brewster's tea times, featuring quince jam, cookies, and homemade elderberry wine, are famous. The pastor and the police often stop by for a chat with the pious and charming ladies, who mainly take care of their, well, somewhat eccentric nephew Teddy. Mortimer, Teddy's brother, and Elaine, the pastor's daughter, have also found happiness here. Everything seems peaceful and blissful. But on a dark, stormy evening, Mortimer rummages through the window chest in the house in search of important documents. And he stumbles upon the well-kept secret of his aunts, which nearly drives him insane. At the same time, a hulking, masked figure enters the cozy home... Peter Wittenberg, who works at the Burgtheater, the Landestheater Linz, and the Theater in der Josefstadt, explores with his comedy-savvy ensemble the obscure undercurrents of sunny front gardens in this wonderfully twisted classic, which gradually unleashes naked madness.
