Fuchs 8 - Vestibule in the Burgtheater

"Why couldn't I be a normal fox, who has no daydreams, only speaks foxish, and obeys his boss? It was the worst of times, it was the worst of times." From the perspective of a fox, George Saunders tells the story of a curious animal in his tale FUCHS 8. Fox 8 is not an ordinary fox. He has acquired the language of humans and looks at them and their world with childlike naive enthusiasm. But one day, the habitat of his pack is destroyed by the construction of a shopping center. Fox 8 decides to save his group. However, his decision has devastating consequences - it takes away his trust in humans... Full of truths, sorrow, pain, astonishment, confusion, and hope, he turns to humanity and leaves us at the end of the story with burning questions about our coexistence: What kind of world do we actually want to live in? How do we envision living together? Do we have too little compassion?
