Bumm Tschak or The Last Executioner - Academy Theater Vienna

In a not-so-distant future, the bass thumps every evening in the trendiest club in the city. Joseph, the club owner, knows how to quench people's thirst for intoxication and escapism, no matter how dark the times are – and they are dark. The new chancellor plans to reinstate the death penalty as her first official act: tough times call for tough measures and someone to carry them out.

After the successful production of EVERYMAN (DIES), Stefan Bachmann continues his work with the award-winning playwright Ferdinand Schmalz. He uses the last executioner of Austria-Hungary, Josef Lang, as a starting point to reflect on authoritarian forms of rule and the thin ice on which our democracy stands.
