Studio 54 - Salzburg State Theatre

The New York nightclub Studio 54 was known for its wild parties in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The extravagant atmosphere filled with vibrant energy and hedonistic spirit made the place the epicenter of nightlife in the metropolis of New York City. The often prominent visitors enjoyed the music and let themselves be carried away in this space where individuality and self-expression were celebrated. The dance floor at Studio 54 was a place of unrestrained expression, where fashion, music, and personalities collided. The revelers, often in daring, glamorous outfits, swayed in the colorful surroundings to pulsating beats, and the dazzling glow of the disco balls further enhanced the feeling of ecstasy. Through its inclusive atmosphere, the club allowed people from all walks of life to come together and participate in the cultural revolution of that time. However, the carefree exuberance, in which the boundaries of art, music, and social norms were explored to the fullest, also had its darker sides. True to the motto "Sex, Drugs & Rock’n’Roll," people indulged in excessive promiscuity and intoxicating excesses in the "modern Gomorrah." Studio 54 remained legendary even after its closure in 1986.

Two very different choreographers in their styles are diving into the era of pop culture on the Aigen studio stage, where dancing and fashion were as much a part of the zeitgeist as the music itself, and exploring the phenomenon of disco. Reginaldo Oliveira has been well-known to the Salzburg audience as a choreographer for years. His narrative ballets such as "Othello," "Anna Karenina," and "Romeo and Juliet" received much acclaim. Most recently, he was successful with "Lili, the Danish Girl," "Sleeping Beauty," and "Frida's World." The young Neapolitan up-and-coming choreographer Vincenzo Veneruso has recently made a name for himself at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. He has already created choreographies for the International Ballet Gala in Salzburg. Now, he is working for the first time on a piece for the ballet of the Landestheater.

The introduction to the works takes place 30 minutes before the start of each performance.
