MIC OECHSNER-JOE RESL-QUARTET

A musical collaboration (and friendship!) between a violinist and a drummer that has lasted for over 40 years is likely unique in the world: Mic Oechsner and Joe Resl first met in 1981 in Boston, USA, at the Berklee School of Music.

The following year, they recorded their first joint album as the MUKHARA JAZZ QUARTET in Upper Austria. Since then, the two musicians have naturally evolved tremendously, played in countless formations, and been heard and seen as sidemen for well-known acts such as ZUPFGEIGENHANSEL, BAP, FALCO, and BLUE CHIP ORCHESTRA.

Despite everything, they have remained true to Modern Jazz and brought two experienced professionals on board in 2022: Mic’s son Gidon Oechsner and Serbian bassist Dusan Simovic, to revive the old quartet sound. As expected, the diversity of the musical styles they have experienced creates a colorful sound palette that reflects all facets of the band's sound.

The result is powerful Modern Jazz, influenced by world music, rock, and Latin – a pan-European fireworks display whose infectious energy recalls the jazz of the 70s and is, of course, tailored to Mic Oechsner's wonderfully swinging violin.
