For many years, Robert Riegler has been known to jazz fans as one of the leading European electric bass virtuosos. His list of collaborations reads like a who’s who of the local and international scene – from Werner Pirchner, Wolfgang Puschnig, and Rebekka Bakken to Bobby Previte, Albert Mangelsdorff, and Michel Portal, as well as the Vienna Art Orchestra, where he was the permanent electric bassist from 1997 to 2003. In 2005, he also reached the finals of the First International Solo Bass Competition in the USA, leaving a lasting impression on jury members such as Victor Wooten and Anthony Jackson. He turned the Americans’ struggle to pronounce his last name correctly into a virtue and has since been addressed as “Rygla”!

With his new band project of the same name, he is now conquering new audiences by also presenting himself as a singer and lyricist, having invented a new music genre with the catchy name “Dialect Fusion” for this purpose! His song lyrics span a range from the autobiographical to the absurd, and the music is a joyful tour de force through various styles, peppered with the finest solo treats from all band members… And the “mottos” with which Rygla concludes his intermissions are legendary!
