The Stage Deaths of My Mother - Landestheater Bregenz

Mother dies every day – and then simply gets back up! For Mother is an opera singer, and her many deaths on stage are just part of the fantastic productions in which she performs. Sometimes she theatrically breathes her last as an elegant diva, other times she ends up as an evil witch in the oven or falls victim to tragic entanglements. And afterwards, she joyfully enjoys the well-deserved applause!

In Carla Haslbauer's picture book THE DEATHS OF MY MOTHER, adapted for the stage by Daniela Egger, it’s not about finitude, but rather the joy of transformation and disguise, the fun of playing with different characters – and the sometimes incomprehensible things parents do outside of family life.

Changing roles, fantastic images, unexpected twists and transformations – the whole colorful, vibrant life of the stage world brings with wit and charm the realization: Being human means diversity, nothing is set in stone, everything can change, after a farewell comes a reunion, and after tears, there will eventually be loud laughter again.

For young audiences, the play is a captivating theater experience full of humor and surprises; for adults, it is a subtle thought experiment about the possibility of constantly reinventing oneself.
