While the summits of the Alps were the first priority for mountaineers, it soon became the ridges and the difficult walls. When the highest peaks on earth, the eight-thousanders, were finally climbed, the death of alpinism was proclaimed, but mountaineering is still alive today! Whereas in the 1980s it was thought that there was nothing significantly new to discover in alpinism, there seem to be no limits to the creativity of today's protagonists.
