In Neil Simon's "Rumors...", the characters navigate very slippery social ground: The mayoral couple Myra and Charlie Brooks have invited friends to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary. One by one, the guests arrive. However, neither Myra nor Charlie can greet them. Myra has vanished without a trace, and Charlie has shot himself. Initially, the friends try to cover up the mysterious disappearance of the hostess and the supposed suicide attempt of the host from one another to protect their reputations. In doing so, they become increasingly entangled in a web of lies. One catastrophe follows another... With its brilliant dialogues, the play is considered a classic and is uproariously funny.
