EK3 - EDI KÖHLDORFER TRIO

With his new trio, Edi Köhldorfer catapults the energy, spirit, and pioneering mood of 20th-century jazz into the 2020s of the second millennium, while simultaneously opening the doors to influences from various global music cultures. Through Köhldorfer's intensive engagement with classical music, the "European heritage" remains ever-present, while being countered by improvisation and ensemble interaction. As always, his influences from the world music scene are also palpable.

Köhldorfer's masterful compositional work is at the forefront, with ample space created for captivating improvisations. This dynamic is supported by internationally renowned drummer Harald Tanschek and equally sought-after bassist Navid Djawadi; an all-star lineup that not only interprets his compositions virtuously but also serves as playful and empathetic soloist sparring partners for the guitarist.

Melodies, odd-meter grooves, and elaborate arrangements characterize the pieces in this production. Music that remains exciting, as it draws from the past but is uncompromisingly in tune with the present!
