In 1840, the French music magazine Journal de Paris published the novella "A Pilgrimage to Beethoven" – a tale written by a young and still unknown Richard Wagner during his financial struggles for the magazine. The fictional journey of Richard Wagner to his long-deceased idol Beethoven turns into an entertaining story full of wit and ultimately reveals almost more about its author than about the master himself. Karl Markovics' storytelling merges with the virtuosic and dramatic elements from Beethoven's pen, ultimately revealing the true theme: music. Works by composer Ludwig van Beethoven form the musical focus of the concert evening – interpreted by none other than pianist Florian Krumpöck.
