CORTO.ALTO (UK) presented by Radio Superfly
Scottish composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall, better known as corto.alto, reflects on an extraordinary year: His debut album "Bad With Names" was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2024 and was awarded Best Album at the Scottish Jazz Awards. In 2025, he received accolades as "Act of the Year" at the Jazz FM Awards and as "UK Independent Breakthrough" at the AIM Awards.
Since signing with Ninja Tune, corto.alto has captivated audiences with new singles like "Don’t Listen" and "Vandal (feat. Moses Yoofee)," continuing his unique fusion of jazz, electronic club culture, hip-hop, soul, and funk. With over 1,500 international radio plays in just six weeks and a four-week placement on the BBC 6 Music A-Playlist, he achieved impressive recognition - "Don’t Listen" also made it into the iconic FC26 soundtrack.
In the past 18 months, corto.alto and his band have performed over 120 concerts, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival, headlining at We Out Here, Latitude, North Sea Jazz, Montreux Jazz Festival, and Cross The Tracks, as well as a sold-out UK tour that concluded with a triumphant homecoming show in front of 2,000 fans at the legendary Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow.
Supported by luminaries such as Gilles Peterson, Jamie Cullum, BBC 6 Music, KCRW, Jazzwise, FIP Radio (FR), and RRR (AUS), and featured on the editorial playlists of Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp, corto.alto has built a passionate fanbase in the UK, Europe, and the USA - symbolizing the new, genre-crossing energy of modern jazz. And surely, this will also convince local fans...
