Contemporary Ballet/Classical In his creation for the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, the Spanish choreographer reinvents the legendary tragedy of Romeo + Juliet. Inspired by Sergei Prokofiev's lyrical yet dark orchestral work, Morau gives the classic drama a contemporary dimension. Instead of retelling the story, he focuses on the emotional drama – the destructive power of hate and the unfulfilled longing for love. With Romeo + Juliet, Marcos Morau creates a breathtaking visual universe with poetic musicality and a meticulously choreographed language of movement, infused with a sinister undertone.

Marcos Morau is one of the most significant choreographers of our time, leading his own dance company and serving as Artist in Residence at the Staatsballett Berlin. He aspires to a dance future with new formats, where opera, dance, and physical theater engage in dialogue more closely than ever before.
