ROUNDABOUT

E C H O BOOMER
The band E C H O BOOMER has been playing with the expectations of its audience since its founding in 2017. Sometimes chamber-music-like, sometimes electronic, the music oscillates on the fine line of categorization. The seven-member band won the Austrian Jazz Award in 2024 in the category "Best Album." The current album "The Shape Of Things That Never Came" continues on this path but refines the ensemble's sound language with many nuances. With an increasingly loose approach to the musical material from the pen of bassist and bandleader Beate Wiesinger, the individual musical voices of this "soloist ensemble" come even more to the fore.

At its core, this idea springs from the long tradition of jazz, but "E C H O BOOMER" formulates a very independent and unmistakable thought about this music and employs a variety of stylistic elements along the way: an amalgam of pop music, noise, and new music meets the well-tuned listener, turning the music into an unheard collection of influences and styles. Through the intertwining of musical freedom and composed context, the ensemble sound that defines "E C H O BOOMER" emerges in the tension between composition and improvisation. The music winds through expectations, announcements, and traditions, borrowing from everywhere and sometimes from nowhere, yet follows its own logic and rules that have developed in the collaborative process of working on and rehearsing the material.

DRANK
Ingrid Schmoliner and Alex Kranabetter have been key pillars of the improvised and experimental music scene in Austria for more than a decade. Although the former is primarily known as a pianist and singer and the latter as a trumpeter, both possess an extremely extensive sound spectrum. Schmoliner works intensively with sound direction to create vibrant psychoacoustic and spatial effects, while Kranabetter regularly employs electronics to radically transform and expand his sound worlds in solo and collaboration projects. Perhaps no other project captures the full splendor of their aesthetic tendencies as well as their duo Drank with its outstanding debut album "breath in definition."

Ingrid Schmoliner – prepared piano
Alex Kranabetter – trumpet, electronics

ROUNDABOUT
From the Mühlviertel to the big stages of the world. The young quartet has already made a name for itself in the Austrian music scene in a short time. With plenty of energy and impressive musicality, the four musicians produce multifaceted sound worlds without losing the accessibility of rhythm and melody. Their music is an explosive mix of charged neo-soul, R’n’B, and nu jazz. During their time together at Pop Borg Linz, they founded the quartet "ROUNDABOUT" in 2021. Like in a roundabout, the creative inputs of the individual ensemble members flow together and find their musical expression in the various exits. Each exit represents the unique, individual contributions and styles of the members, which together form a harmonious whole.

Manú Kreutzer – Sax
Moritz Jakob Lindner – Drums
Henrik Stöllinger – Bass
Alexander Danninger – Piano, Keys
