Thematic Tour: Austrian Contemporary History in Linz

In 1918, the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed, which had once laid its foundation in the city parish church with the "Imperial Wedding" of Austria with Bohemia and Hungary. In the Hotel Weinzinger, the (temporary) end of Austria was sealed in 1938 with the "Anschluss." In 1934, the Austrian Civil War began from the Hotel Schiff, and between 1945 and 1955, the border between the Soviet and American zones ran right through Linz.
