A Literary Portrait of Hedy Lamarr with Mercedes Echerer

Hedy Lamarr was born in 1914 in Vienna and grew up in a villa in Döbling. Max Reinhardt referred to her as "the most beautiful woman in the world." Hedy Lamarr gained international fame through the Czech film "Ecstasy" (1933) with a brief appearance that is considered the first nude scene in film history. Hedy Lamarr was willful, headstrong, and difficult; she never subordinated herself and enjoyed her life as long as she was at the top of the career ladder. In 1967, at the age of 53, she gave an interview in her hotel room in Manhattan. Without pause, she presents herself, claiming that if something went wrong, it was the fault of others—evil film producers, wrong decisions, rejected film roles, and finally, the store detectives who accused her of theft.

This reading will be accompanied by a trio performing pieces by George Gershwin and Glenn Miller.

Recitation: Mercedes Echerer
Music: Jazz Trio: Roberto Pisati (piano), Karl Sayer (double bass) & Martin Haslinger (saxophone and clarinet)
