Tango Ador
The Koehne Quartet, consisting of Joanna Lewis (violin), Anne Harvey-Nagl (violin), Lena Fankhauser (viola), and Melissa Coleman (cello), expands to a quintet with Ciro Vigilante on double bass. At the piano is Karl Eichinger – all have earned an international reputation for their cross-genre interpretations. Tango Ador, a composition by Melissa Coleman, lends its name to the program featuring works by George Gershwin, Melissa Coleman, and Philip Glass. The New York magazine Fanfare described Karl Eichinger as "... who may just be the latest incarnation of Gershwin’s 'to-go' interpreter," and thus George Gershwin's Piano Concerto "Concerto in F" in an arrangement for piano and string quintet is the centerpiece of the program, highlighting the chamber music facets of this work. With Philip Glass's String Quartet No. 5, the Koehne Quartet showcases its mastery in engaging with 20th-century music, while "Tango Ador" combines stylistic confidence and improvisational skill.
