A humorous-musical delight revolving around soaring heights, identities, and the longing for more: In "Flieger, grüß mir die Sonne," audience favorite Erwin Steinhauer dedicates himself to the texts of H.C. Artmann, the great wordsmith and chronicler of the Viennese soul. Artmann's stories propel a con artist into the skies – a man who, with a false identity, prosthetics, and boundless imagination, becomes a daring aviator. Yet behind the play with poses and myths, the longing for happiness and freedom always glimmers through.
With his unmistakable charm and precise acting skills, Steinhauer brings Artmann's wit, irony, and subtle melancholy to life. He is supported by three excellent musicians who embed his reading in captivating soundscapes: Georg Graf (wind instruments), Joe Pinkl (keyboard, trombone), and Peter Rosmanith (percussion) create a soundtrack that paints the highs and lows of aviator life in vivid colors. Tango, waltz, and rumba meet jazzy improvisations, driving the hero to brave deeds and winking at his courtship behavior.
An evening that celebrates Artmann's distinctive tone, pointed and full of rhythm, lightness, and depth. Between literature and music, between humor and poetry, a Viennese variant of Pulp Fiction emerges, bringing the audience both smiles and wonder. An extraordinary interplay of language, acting, and music – entertaining, surprising, and exhilarating.
