Guided hike: High tour from Gamsgraben to Hochalm

This high-altitude tour is surely a highlight in the hiking region of Graz. Along the North-South long-distance hiking trail 05, one reaches a beautiful and often solitary alpine region.

The ascent takes us past the former alpine inn along forest roads and quiet woodland paths up to the high alpine pasture. Lonely trails accompany us to the Hochalmhütte, where a rustic stop and a unique view of the surrounding mountain world await us. Those who still have a "desire for more" upon arriving at the Hochalmhütte can climb the summit of the Wetterkogel (1643 m). After a cozy rest, we will return to the valley via the same route. Meeting point: 07:30 AM at Frohnleiten train station. Trail length: 15 km | Ascent: 880 m | Walking time: approx. 6:00 hours. Duration of the hike until around 4:00 PM with a planned stop at the Hochalmhütte, followed by a shared return transfer by shuttle taxi to Frohnleiten train station (included).

Travel by public transport: take the S-Bahn S1 from Graz to Frohnleiten, transfer by shuttle taxi to the Roßstall/Gamsgraben parking lot and back (included), return from Frohnleiten individually. Difficulty level: Due to the length of the tour, endurance is required, with no particular difficulties, but good fitness for 900 meters of elevation gain (!) and 6 hours of walking time. Equipment: Good footwear (hiking boots) is required, hiking clothing (layering principle), rain and sun protection, backpack, possibly hiking poles, drink, snack, and a possibility for a meal during the hike.

Cost: €15.00 per person, payable on-site to the guide. Service: Guided hike with certified mountain guides, transfer Frohnleiten - Gamsgraben and back. Registration: by Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at www.regiongraz.at/wandertouren. The guided hike is organized by the Graz Region Tourism Association in collaboration with hiking guides. Please note that last-minute changes may be possible. Participation is at your own risk.
