Scenic and sometimes a bit challenging, but always worthwhile – hikes in the beautiful Lipizzaner homeland.
In Köflach, we first walk through the town past the Therme Nova, and from the Zigöllerkogel, the path steadily ascends. Following the Turnersteig, we traverse meadows and forests to reach the scenic ridge, which we follow up to Hirtlkogel. From here, we descend back to Graden – also known as the home of the Kern Buam and the eponymous hiking trail. Meeting point: 08:15 AM, Köflach train station. Trail length: 13 km | Ascent: 550 m | Walking time: approximately 5:00 hours. The hike will last until around 2:30 PM, followed by a planned stop in Graden, with a return transfer by taxi bus to Köflach train station (included).
Arrival by public transport: take the S-Bahn from Graz to Köflach, return trip from Köflach is individual. Difficulty level: A hike with some steeper ascents and descents, requires stamina for approximately 13 kilometers, 550 meters of elevation gain, and 5 hours of walking time. Equipment: Good footwear (hiking shoes) is required, hiking clothing (layering principle), backpack, rain and sun protection, possibly hiking poles, drinks, snacks, no stops during the hike.
Cost: €15.00 per person, payable on-site to the guide. Service: Guided hike with certified mountain guides, return transfer to Köflach train station. Registration: by Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at www.regiongraz.at/wandertouren. The guided hike is organized by the Graz Region Tourism Association in collaboration with the hiking guides. Please note that last-minute changes may be possible. Participation is at your own risk.
